IMPD names man hit, killed on Indy’s east side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man was struck and killed by a vehicle on the east side of Indianapolis early Thursday morning, IMPD officials said.

It happened near South Kitley Avenue and Brookville Road around 5:35 a.m. According to a spokesperson with IMPD, the pedestrian was crossing the street when the light turned green. He stopped on the double yellow line and one car stopped, so he thought it was safe to continue crossing. When he started to cross, a second car hit him.

Thursday afternoon, IMPD identified the victim as 32-year-old Bruce Wigell.

Wigell was wearing dark clothing with his hood up and had ear buds in his ears.

Both vehicles on the scene cooperated with police. The driver of the car that hit the man was taken in for a blood draw, which is standard procedure.

Officers closed Brookville Road between Pasadena and Arlington Thursday morning, but the road has since reopened.
