INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The day before elections across the state, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles has announced an outage keeping the bureau’s website, app, branches and kiosks from processing transactions.

The Monday outage is due to a technical failure from the BMV’s credential vendor, IDEMIA, the BMV said.

BMV branches on Monday night were to be staffed until 8 p.m. to receive customer contact information, answer questions and provide “Comeback Passes” for Tuesday, the BMV said.

Just after 5 a.m. Tuesday, the BMV released a statement saying that branches would be open and are ready to process transactions following a technical failure on Monday.

The governmental department said BMV Connect kiosks and myBMV are also restored and processing transactions.

“We apologize to anyone inconvenienced by this outage. Serving Hoosiers and providing ample opportunity to obtain identification for any purpose they need is a core part of our mission,” BMV Commissioner Peter Lacy said. “Ensuring technical failures do not occur is of utmost importance to our team and we will continue working with our vendor partner until all parties are confident in our future planning.”

Anyone who visited during the outage was allowed to wait for service to return or to leave callback information with the staff, the BMV said.

Branches in counties holding elections will be open from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday, the BMV said.
