ISP: Man jumps from bridge after crashing car
LAKE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Indiana State Police report a Hobart man jumped off a Lake County bridge late Tuesday night after crashing his car on Interstate 65.
Indiana State Police Trooper Brandon Alberts said, based on preliminary investigation, 32-year-old Jacob Heino crashed his Chevy Sonic into the inner concrete barrier wall just after 11 p.m. Tuesday in the northbound lanes of I-65 at the 260 mile-marker, which is between the I-80/94 and I-80/90 interchanges.
Trooper Alberts said a witness stated Heino had been “traveling at a high rate of speed” prior to the crash.
The car became disabled after the crash. Two females in the car told troopers Heino then fled the vehicle and jumped off the east side of the bridge.
Troopers located Heino, where he fell an estimated 42 feet. He was conscious and alert, but he suffered numerous injuries. Heino was taken to North Lake Methodist Hospital in Gary. Family was notified.
Both passengers were uninjured.
State police believe narcotics may be involved. Toxicology results are pending.
