LGBTQ City-County Council members host meet and greet
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — People had a chance Tuesday night to meet four Indianapolis City-County Council members who are part of the LGBTQ community.
It’s the first time in the city’s history that four councilors who are openly gay were elected in one election: Zach Adamson, Ali Brown, Ethan Evans and Keith Potts.
The executive director of Indy Pride, Chris Handberg, says the goal of the event was to introduce the community to the people representing them.
City-County Councilor Keith Potts said being in office gives the LGBTQ community hope knowing people are actively fighting for their rights.
“In Indianapolis we want to see our council leading and taking charge and making sure that our community, our city and our state knows that Indianapolis is a welcoming and celebratory place,” Potts said.
Potts said people have approached him about being a role model for their children.
He says it means so much to him knowing the next generation of kids have someone to look up to.
