Man arrested for Indy’s first murder of 2016

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – One man has been arrested in connection to the first murder of 2016.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, 26-year-old Najee Givens has been taken into custody for the shooting death of 19-year-old Terry Williams.

Police said Givens was arrested by U.S. Marshalls in Canton, Ohio in late June and was extradited to Indianapolis in mid-July.

The fatal shooting of Williams occurred just after 11 p.m. on January 4 in the 6000 block of Windsor Drive.

In January, when police arrived on scene, they discovered Williams suffering from a gunshot wound.  Williams was later pronounced dead on scene.

Givens is currently being held in the Marion County Jail, where he is awaiting his next court appearance.
