Man charged in Frankfort shooting death

FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) – A man who was arrested Saturday night after a woman was fatally shot in Frankfort has been charged with murder.

According to a release from the Frankfort Police Department, Keith Smith, 56, of Frankfort was arrested Saturday in connection with the shooting death of a 50-year-old female. Smith has been charged with one count of murder, a level one felony.

According to 24-Hour News 8 sister station, WLFI, around 7 p.m., police were called to a home in the 700 block of West Green Street.

Officers said Smith had holed up inside when they arrived. They were able to speak with him, and he eventually exited the home peacefully.

Frankfort Police Chief Troy Bacon said one female victim was found dead from a gunshot wound.

The identity of the female victim is pending approval from the Clinton County Coroner’s Office.

Frankfort resident Saul Ceja said he cannot believe something like this could happen in his neighborhood.

“The cops were yelling at everyone saying get back, get back,” Ceja said. “Little kids are running up the street just to see what’s going on. Then we find out crazy stuff happening. Shootings and stuff. That never happens in this town.”
