Man convicted in sword attack on store manager

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) – A central Indiana man has been convicted on felony charges for a sword attack that followed an argument with a grocery store manager.

A Delaware County judge found 63-year-old Johnny Junior Wesley of Muncie guilty this week of battery with a deadly weapon and intimidation. He’ll be sentenced May 13.

The Star Press reports Wesley was accused of attacking the manager of a Marsh Supermarket store in Muncie following a disagreement about his purchase of cigarettes. The manager wasn’t cut with the sword, but the weapon did leave a welt on his leg.

Wesley claimed he acted in self-defense after the manager pulled two handguns on him and fired once.

But witness accounts and store surveillance video showed that the manager was unarmed.
