It happened around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers say they tried to stop 32-year-old Thomas E. Childers on State Street. They say he refused to pull over and led officers on a pursuit before eventually crashing into a parked vehicle on Pence Street. Childers got out of the car and ran into a house where he was taken into custody after a struggle with officers.
While inside the home, officers say they saw drugs in plain view. A search warrant was obtained by detectives who later found about two grams of heroin, 15 hypodermic needles, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a stolen computer inside the house.
Childers is facing a number of preliminary charges including resisting law enforcement, possession of heroin and marijuana, reckless driving and two warrants out of Bartholomew County for dealing. Police also arrested 40-year-old Chad A. Mitchell on a preliminary charge of maintaining a common nuisance.
