Man killed in south side house fire
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man is dead after fire broke out in his south side home.
It happened Thursday morning before 6 a.m. at a residence in the 1800 block of New Street.
IFD public information officer Rita Reith identified the man as 65-year old Roderick Case. She said he lived in the home alone and was also the only one home at the time of the blaze.
Reith said the victim had health issues but did not elaborate on what those issues were. She said there was excessive clutter in the home. She wasn’t sure if that clutter was a factor as to why Case didn’t make it out of his home. She did say, however, that the clutter was causing issues for investigators who had trouble getting inside the house.
This marks the fifth fire since Wednesday night to which IFD has responded.
“Each of the fires were unique in their own right. Some were occupied, some weren’t. This is the first serious injury that we’ve had for the night. But it’s been a busy night for the fire department,” said Reith.
At this time, a cause has not been determined. The fire is under investigation.
