Mayor Hogsett’s son arrested on drug charges

RUSHVILLE, Ind. (WISH) – The Mayor of Indianapolis’ son was arrested on drug charges Friday.

A Rushville police officer pulled over 18-year-old William Hogsett when he didn’t use his signal when turning and was driving over the center line.

When he stopped the car, the officer smelled marijuana.

There were two other occupants in the car, 18-year-old Michael St John and 19-year-old Treyton Meal All three of them denied that marijuana was in the vehicle, according to court documents.

According to police, all three occupants had red, glassy eyes and were “exhibiting other signs of impairment.”

When all three were asked to exit the vehicle, Hogsett admitted there were illegal narcotics in the car.

Officers found marijuana and other drug paraphernalia in the car.

According to police, William Hogsett and the other two people in the vehicle were arrested and faces preliminary charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

He posted bail from Rush County Jail.

A Mayor’s Office spokesperson released the following statement:

Of the many things Joe Hogsett is responsible for, the most important is serving as a father to his family. And as a former prosecutor with a deep respect for the rule of law, he appreciates the seriousness of this matter. Obviously, Joe will continue to spend the coming days with his teenage son as he and his family address this disappointing incident.
