Neighbor busts window to rescue victim from burning home

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Pike Township firefighters say a neighbor was at the right place at the right time on Thursday evening.

The Indianapolis Fire Department was called to assist Pike Township on a house fire in the 2900 block of Driving Wind Way to a home that had heavy smoke and flames visible. That’s near 62nd Street and Michigan Road.

According to Pike Township investigators, two people were home when the fire broke out. One of the residents made out of the home, while the other stayed behind to try and put out the fire. A shot time later a neighbor walked by the home and noticed the person inside. The neighbor busted out a window to rescue the person.

According to firefighters, the home is most likely a total loss. One dog died in the fire.
