Officials ID driver in fatal Grant County crash

UPLAND, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana State Police have identified a man that died in a Grant County crash on Thursday.

ISP said 54-year-old Monty Taylor of Huntington died in the crash.

Investigators believe his vehicle drifted into the opposite lane while traveling southbound on State Road 5 near State Road 22.

Taylor’s vehicle struck two vehicles, caught fire and was on fire when first responders arrived. Taylor was not able to escape the vehicle, investigators said.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were hospitalized in Marion. A 9-year-old boy that was a passenger in one of the vehicles suffered internal injuries and was flown to Fort Wayne via medical helicopter.

ISP says the investigation is ongoing.
