One dead in Bartholomew County plane crash

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — One person is dead after a plane crash in Bartholomew County.

Dispatchers said a small plane crashed at 20950 E. County Road 200 N. in Hartsville, with a call coming in at 12:52 p.m. Deputies arrived seven minutes later.

Investigators said the male pilot is dead. He has been identified as 77-year-old Ren Sagaert. An autopsy has revealed he died from blunt force trauma to the head, chest, abdomen and extremities. Toxicology is pending.

The Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office said the plane wasa Temco Swift, possibly a 1940s model. Investigators believe Sagaert was taking off at the time of the crash.

Indiana State Police, Hope Police, Columbus Fire Department and the Hartsville Fire Department assisted in the crash.
