Plainfield schools put on lockdown following burglary in area

PLAINFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — The Plainfield Police Department is investigating a residential burglary that resulted in area schools being placed on lockdown.

Police said a resident returned to his home in the 400 block of Dunn St. to find two males taking items from the home. The suspects then fled the residence.

Police describe the suspects as “two younger black males” that fled in a silver or gray car, possibly a Ford Taurus, that had been parked on Carr Road.

Plainfield schools tweeted Tuesday afternoon several of its school were on lockdown, including Brentwood Elementary School, Clarks Creek Elementary School, Central Elementary School, Van Buren Elementary School and Plainfield Community Middle School.

The school later tweeted that the lockdown that was due to police activity in the area. A short time later, Plainfield schools posted a message saying that middle school students had been been released, but that elementary schools were still on lockdown.

Just after 3 p.m. Plainfield Schools posted a message on social media saying that all lockdowns had been lifted.

According to the Plainfield Police Department, the lockdown was due to a home burglary in the area. Police said the suspect is still at large.
