Police looking for person who killed 13 dogs in Cass County

CASS COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A total of thirteen Bluetick Coonhounds have been found shot dead in Cass County.

Three grown females and five puppies, were found in a ditch on County Road 800 South between County Roads 1000 East and 1100 East in Cass County. Animal Control says the dogs were shot and left in the ditch for at least a week.

Five more puppies have also been found in the area.

The pictures released late Thursday by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office showing the fate of thirteen Bluetick Coonhounds were so graphic that they even rocked the seasoned officers who arrived to the first location.

Why someone killed and then dumped the animals in two watery ditches is at the top of the list of questions Sgt. Daniel Neher with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office said he will work hard to figure out.

“The adult dogs found at the first location were shot in the ear and we think the puppies were drowned.  It’s to early to know for sure at this point the cause of death. It could be a breeder who shot them. We are following up on leads right now. I hope someone comes forward with information,” said Neher.
