Potential candidate for president Howard Schultz to speak at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Howard Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks and a potential 2020 candidate for president, will be at Purdue University for a visit Thursday, a university spokesman confirms.

Purdue Student Government will sponsor the visit. It’s scheduled at 1 p.m. in Fowler Hall in the Stewart Center.

Only invited and ticketed members of the university’s governance councils can attend, according to the university. A livestream will be shown in Loeb Playhouse and will be open for students, faculty, staff and the public.

“We think this is an incredible opportunity for Purdue students to learn more about not only Mr. Schultz but to become aware of issues affecting our country and our futures,” said Aaron Banks, president of Purdue Student Government. “As leaders at Purdue, we feel it is our responsibility to offer these types of events, which are not designed as endorsements of any viewpoint.”

The Washington Post reports Schultz is expected to deliver a “major policy address.”

Schultz said last week that he would be heavily interested in a 2020 presidential run as an independent.
