Randolph County escapee captured in Ohio
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A Randolph County Jail inmate who fled from the jail Monday morning has been taken into custody in nearby Darke County, Ohio, officials confirm.
Robert Dean Lewis was being held at the jail on a burglary charge when he escaped.
Wednesday afternoon, police in Darke County, Ohio received a tip that Lewis was in the area in a pickup truck. Officers found Lewis standing outside the vehicle near a park.
When officers approached Lewis, he tried to run off, so an officer used a stun gun on him. Lewis was then taken into custody.
It’s unclear what additional charges Lewis will face as a result of his escape.
Around 3:30 a.m. Monday, police officials said a jail employee supervising Lewis stepped into the bathroom to pick up a trash bag and Lewis saw an opportunity to run.
