Rumor of Dr. Pepper getting discontinued falls flat

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Dr. Pepper is setting the rumors straight on social media, after a online hoax claimed Coca-Cola bought the rights to Dr. Pepper and would be discontinuing production of the soft drink.

According to Snopes, in April a story on Facebook with the headline “An American Classic Says Goodbye” circulated the social site.

Dr. Pepper took to Twitter to set the rumors straight.

The Dr. Pepper soft drink brand is owned by the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group. Neither the drink or its parent company have been bought out by Coca-Cola and do not have any plans to discontinue production.

In addition, Coca-Cola does own bottlers in North America who produce and distribute both Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper products, but those two brands have always been owned by different companies.
