SWAT situation near downtown ends peacefully
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A SWAT situation near downtown Indianapolis ended peacefully early Monday morning after a suspect inside a home surrendered.
Officers were called to the scene just east of downtown, near State and Washington, around 1:15 a.m. Initial reports from police were that the person inside the home may be connected to a homicide.
After investigating, officials said they were serving a warrant at the home for a man wanted for rape and robbery. When they arrived on scene, they saw the 20-year-old man sitting on the porch with a rifle.
According to police, the man went inside the house and wouldn’t come out. It was then that members of the SWAT team were called to the scene.
Just before 4:30 a.m., police say the suspect came out of the home on his own and surrendered to officers. A total of four people – two adults and two children, ages 11 and 12 – were in the home at the time of the incident. No one was hurt.
The man’s name has not been released. One other person went with police to be questioned.
