Thieves break into restaurant that serves the needy

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — For more than 20 years, Unleavened Bread has helped the needy and provided jobs for those looking for employment.

The north side restaurant is known to hire women recently released from prison. Mother Womack runs the day-to-day operations. She has fed mayors, a congressman and even the child of a U.S. President.

On Tuesday overnight, an uninvited guest pulled steel off of a window at Unleavened Bread. The suspect pushed in the window and ransacked the building. When workers arrived, they noticed the damage and discovered food was missing.

Police have no clear description of a possible suspect.

Despite the break-in, Womack says she wants to meet the person who broke in.

“I would love to talk to them and minster to them and see what is the problem, and why they are breaking in,” said Womack.

Currently, Unleavened Bread is selling pies to help support the restaurant. If you would like to purchase a pie you can call 317-920-5292.
