Volunteers sought to create monarch butterfly sanctuary
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Several community organizations will create a monarch butterfly sanctuary Saturday along the Urban Wilderness Trail in White River State Park.
The event will be from 8:45 a.m.-noon at the Indiana Urban Wilderness Trail’s Grassland Zone & Nature Overlook in White River State Park.
Volunteers will remove invasive species and add plants that support the monarch butterfly.
The event is part of a Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration. In Mexican culture, monarch butterflies represent the spirits of loved ones who have died.
Volunteers can sign up here by selecting the Monarch Sanctuary Planting project listing.
