Woman convicted in cornfield murder sentenced
HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – A woman convicted of killing a woman whose body was found in a Hancock County cornfield was sentenced on Wednesday.
Amanda Gonzales was sentenced to spend 60 years on the charge of murder and 30 years on the charge to commit murder in the Department of Corrections. She will serve those sentences concurrently, and her earliest date of release would be 2057.
The sentencing for Gonzales began at 2 p.m. in a Hancock County courtroom.
Gonzales was convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the death of Katrina Miller. Miller was found dead in a Hancock County cornfield in July 2014.
Prosecutors say Gonzales orchestrated the murder out of jealousy after catching Miller in a hotel room with Gonzales’ then-boyfriend.
Court records also show Gonzales attacked another inmate who had provided information to detectives.
Gonzales was sentenced earlier in August to two years in prison for beating up that witness.
