Woman sentenced in juvenile’s overdose death
GREENFIELD, Ind. (WISH) — A Greenfield woman has been sentenced in the Jan. 3 overdose death of a juvenile.
Anna Southgate, 20, was initially charged with dealing in a narcotic drug, reckless homicide, unlawful possession of syringe and possession of paraphernalia.
Greenfield police say a judge sentenced Southgate to 12 years in the Department of Corrections for reckless homicide. It was part of a plea agreement.
In January, 16-year-old Jacob Root was found dead at Southgate’s house.
An autopsy showed Root died from a fentanyl overdose.
Investigators say Southgate gave him the drugs then didn’t call 911 for help when he started showing signs of an overdose.
Southgate originally also faced several drug charges.
